Gia Jones is a British film photographer and filmmaker based in West London. Her work sits within portraiture across the fashion and music scene of the city. Her studio portraits are intimate yet confrontational; her editorial work explores stories and dreams that she creates and depicts through her subjects. Her documentation mainly focuses on the youth culture and diversity within the city, whether in the fashion or music scene, she is always embedded within the world she is creating or capturing.

Her work has been published in Numéro Netherlands, Wonderland and more. Gia has been exhibited across London, including Thirsty Thirty (2024), Winning Image: Gorecore (2024), and I Loved Printing That (2025), demonstrating her ongoing dedication to film photography and the community surrounding her work.

Gia Jones is a London-based film photographer whose work centres on portraiture, fashion, and the cultural worlds that surround her.

She grew up in the English countryside outside Birmingham and studied Art & Design at Birmingham Ormiston Academy, where her fascination with photography and mixed media first developed. During this time, she became interested in documenting people within their everyday environments, as well as the energy of Birmingham’s music scene. These early experiences sparked a lasting interest in storytelling and in the emotional spaces that exist between performance and reality.

After briefly attending university, she realised the stories she wanted to tell were unfolding beyond the walls of a classroom. When the pandemic began, she moved to Portugal, a period that allowed her to reflect on her work. Returning to the UK, she worked as a filmmaker and developed a strong interest in directing, an experience that continues to influence the cinematic sensibility of her photography.

It was during this time that Jones began to focus intensely on her photographic practice and the ways in which images could communicate narrative and atmosphere. She started exploring analogue processes, teaching herself the craft of film photography and developing a particular affinity for black and white film. Through this process, she became deeply engaged with the foundations of the medium, light, composition, and the deliberate pace required when working with film.

Her work often embraces the authenticity of in-between moments, favouring emotion and presence over perfection. Rather than highly constructed imagery, Gia is drawn to the subtle tensions and raw expressions that emerge naturally between photographer and subject.

Now based in London, she works across portraiture, fashion, and editorial photography. Her practice continues to evolve through collaborations within the city’s music, fashion, and artistic communities. She has toured and photographed bands and artists, produced editorial work, exhibited her photography, and continues to develop her analogue and darkroom practice while documenting the creative culture around her.
